  • HHD offers a wide range of interior design and architecture services, each tailored to suit individual client needs. Whether the challenge is to freshen up an existing space, or to start from scratch, HHD can provide the expertise to create an environment that fits any pace of life.

  • HHD is comprised of a talented team of designers and professionals who bring expertise and professionalism in design, management, and communication to the design studio. Our two lead designers have a combined 14 years of professional experience and formal education in Interior Architecture and Design. We are a close-knit, “all hands on deck” team which means that every project is touched by each of us! We believe that our clients should feel confident in the ability of each member of our team and the assets that they bring to our studio.

  • HHD offers full service interior design for residential and commercial interiors, including:

    • Interior Architectural Drawings (Floor plans, Elevations, Lighting plans)

    • Architectural Consulting and Drawing Review

    • Space Planning

    • Interior Rendering (3D Modeling)

    • Kitchen and Bathroom Design

    • Furnishing Selection & Placement

    • Lighting Design & Specification

    • Finish & Fixture Selection

    • Custom Window Treatment

    • Installation & Styling

  • We follow a process typical to the industry (with some nuance) briefly listed below:

Initial Consultation and Onboarding - Getting to know you and understanding your project!

Programming - We set up your project and begin brainstorming.

Project Development - Our designers build on the Programming foundation with more refined drawings and selections. This is where the most “fun stuff” happens.

Project Management - We begin carrying out the design and a lot of designer magic happens behind the scenes. This tends to be the phase when tensions rise, but we do all that we can to make the process as enjoyable and easy as possible!

    Design Delivered - That’s a wrap!

  • The Onboarding process is how our team gets to know you as a client and is absolutely integral to getting your project started on the right foot! We do this using three strategies:

Onboarding Survey - This is a list of brief questions to give our designers an overview of you and your project from your point of view.

Initial Consultation - Our designers check out your space in person.

Onboarding Meeting - Your first design meeting at the studio, where we take a deep dive into your thoughts on the project, your wants and needs, our process, your scope, and our proposed Client Agreement.

  • Residential interiors are at the heart of HHD’s work. Whether a new-construction or a historic renovation, a single room or an entire home, we work with each client to create a space that is a reflection of the comfort and aesthetics of their lifestyle.

  • Most of our work is in Chattanooga and the surrounding areas. We love our hometown, but are excited whenever we get the opportunity to work in other cities, states, or countries! We have worked on a handful of out-of-town projects including projects in Nashville, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. HHD is very good at efficient, long-distance communication and travel, as needed. If you are out-of-town and are interested in working with us, we’d love to discuss your project!

  • In short, an interior designer may decorate, but decorators do not design. Interior design is the art and science of understanding people’s behavior in order to create functional spaces within a built environment. HHD believes that an interior designer should have completed formal education and training while continuing their education. It’s not just about pillows and paint!

  • It depends. If you already have a structure built and are looking for interior architectural changes, then in most cases you only require the help of an interior designer. If you are building a home from scratch, we advise hiring an architect and an interior designer and having them collaborate from the beginning of the project. We believe collaboration from the start presents better results because everyone has an understanding from the foundation (literally).

  • Well, yes and no. We know that most projects take a village, and in our experience projects greatly benefit from strong professional relationships, so we may recommend a builder or contractor based on our previous work. That said, every client and every project is unique, and at the end of the day it is up to you to make the decision of who you hire to work in your space.

  • We have a fixed rate per hour for all design time throughout any phase of the project. Based on the scope of the work, HHD will estimate the amount of hours needed to complete your project, classified as “billable hours”. These hours are billed in two stages during the Design Process. We make our money by charging a flat hourly rate for any work that our team performs on your project. Unlike a law firm for instance, we do not charge for minor expenses like printing, mileage, or every minute that we are on a phone call or responding to your email. It is never our intention to nickel and dime our clients, and truthfully it would be a pain to track all of the small incidentals. Detailed information regarding our full billing process can be found in the Sample Client Agreement.

  • Once the items have been approved in the Design Development phase, we will begin our purchasing process. Depending on the project scope and the type of item, merchandise will be purchased by you, by HHD, or by contractors.

For merchandise purchasable through HHD , we will send formal estimates and invoices that include the following:

    • Total Product Price - The total price of products plus necessary freight to get them to our studio for receiving, inspection, and storage until ready for your installation.

    • Tax - Total sales tax due.

    • White Glove Delivery and Necessary Assembly - We will take care of the packaging and transportation of your new belongings and do what is needed to install them in your home. Carrying an iron and stone table up three flights of stairs and squeezing sectional sofas through impossibly small doorways are things we have done, so we realize that each delivery is unique. We are able to assemble most furniture ahead of installation, but we are unable to provide assembly services for items requiring a licensed professional.

After reviewing your estimate and invoice, simply provide payment (cash, check, or card), and let us take care of the rest!

  • We understand the draw to products from websites and stores like these for their rolling discounts and wide availability. Typically, we are not able to obtain merchandise from the big-box stores like Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Wayfair, Target, West Elm, etc. at a designer discount, meaning that we pay what you pay.

  • When purchasing furniture for your home, 90% of the time you are approving your furniture based on our design tearsheets which include a few photos and as many product details that we can provide. These products almost always have some degree of customization, making each order unique. Because of the custom nature of all furniture orders, all sales are final and we are unable to accept returns. Throughout our years of business, we have only had a handful of situations where the customer was completely unhappy with the piece once it arrived. We completely understand that this can be a frustrating situation and will try to work with you to find a reasonable solution.

  • Typically we do not go store-to-store to shop for individual pieces. Shopping in person greatly limits the number of pieces available to you, takes much longer because of travel, and there’s always the risk that the item you’re looking for isn’t on the showroom floor at all. To recreate the shopping experience for you we gather as many photos, measurements, and samples that we can get our hands on to help you make an informed decision. If you are uncomfortable with ordering items online or through a catalog, let us know in your Onboarding documentation and we will factor that into our time and project scope.
